Top Secret Airplanes

Pizza and Networking: 6:30 PM
Presentation: 7:00 PM
Speaker: Tapio Kartalia
Free admission. Register at http://www.ieee-bv.org/meet/2018-01-aes

Abstract
The Presentation covers a summary of the procedure required to create a brand new airplane. The three aircraft design steps, the conceptual, the preliminary, and the detailed design phases are discussed with an introduction to various aircraft design constraints and design aspects.

The discussion is mainly focused on three Lockheed Skunk Works airplanes each of which advanced the state of the art in aeronautics by leaps and bounds. The U-2 Dragon Lady, the SR-71 Blackbird, and the F-117 Nighthawk (Stealth Fighter) are all considered to be among the greatest in the history of Aeronautics.

About the Speaker
Tapio Kartiala has over 45 years’ experience as an Aerospace Structures Engineer, and over 35 years teaching experience as an adjunct teacher at Los Angeles Valley College in the Engineering Department. He earned his Master’s degree from USC, and a Bachelor’s degree from UCLA. He has a Professional Engineer’s License from the State of California, an Engineering Instructor’s Credential from the Los Angeles Community College District, and two U.S. patents. In 2005 he founded SETLA (Scientists, Engineers and Technicians Leadership Association), and he has many years of community involvement as a member of the North Hills Jaycees, an officer of S.O.L.I.D. (Supporters of Law enforcement In Devonshire), a member of the Granada Hills Chamber of Commerce, and supporting the Granada Hills Rotary community projects.

Abstract
Along with advancement of chemical and biological technology, new medicine and medicine carrier have been introduced to market. The traditional drug administration solution can’t meet the new drug specified target efficacy requirement. As a result of the pharmaceutical industry growing, the new technology for modern drug delivery applications has been considered and adopted. Painless, needless, mobilization, personalization and smartness solutions have been steadily investigated, invested, developed and commercialized in the last decades. The innovation of the way to make drug administering more convenient and more effective has been accelerated. With incentives from all directions, the smart technology has been focused in the drug delivery development and the growing has been strong ever since. The smart technology that have been used in the drug dispense industry are mobile, portable, wearable, low energy, personalization, privacy, mesh network and cloud computing. In my presentation, I will present these technologies, their potentials and challenges for the future drug delivery devices.

About the Speaker
Victory Yin is currently a principal engineer in Amgen, specialized in drug delivery device and connectivity design assurance and development since 2012. Before that, he was a medical device engineer in HP/Agilent/Philips medical and healthcare business group specialized in manufacturing, quality assurance, hardware design, and medical data processing for ECG cardiograph products, where he was the lead of SQE teams on test architecture design and software verification and validation for Philips ECG Management System, Holter ambulatory ECG product and PageWriter Resting ECG devices.

Victory received a master's degree in Computer Science from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, and master's and bachelor's degrees both in Electrical Engineering from East China University of Since and Technology in Shanghai.
