Girls Make STEM with Heart
IEEE Buenaventura STEM Event for Middle School Girls
10:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Santa Paula

Event is free, but registration is required.

Girls in grades 5 to 8 will become scientists and engineers for a day. They will explore how science, technology, engineering and math can help sustain our planet. Students can choose from workshops on chemistry, circuits, gravity, programming, solar energy, or sound; with a focus on how these technologies can be used sustainably.

This event is organized by the IEEE Buenaventura Section, with the gracious hospitality of Isbell Middle School in Santa Paula. The event is supported by women and men in STEM professions, and by IEEE.

Event is free of charge, but capacity is limited. Lunch will be provided.

Please note

  Doors open at 9:30 AM.
  Parents are welcome to join the workshops after 2:00 PM to see what their daughters have learned.
  Parking: The main parking lot and event entrance is on the 400 block of Harvard Blvd. in Santa Paula. Overflow parking is available on South 4th Street.

MAD Games: Multi-Agent Dynamic Games
What can you learn from Autonomous Racing?

On March 13, Rahul Mangharam gave a talk to the IEEE Buenaventura Computer Society Chapter about "MAD Games". Autonomous racing is a domain that penalizes safe but conservative policies, highlighting the need for robust, adaptive strategies. Research in the F1TENTH autonomous race cars platform is 10th the size, but 10x the fun! This talk discussed this exciting research on safe autonomous systems. (video)

Clinical Research Engineer – Valencia, CA
huMannity Medtec (formerly the Alfred Mann Foundation) is searching for a Clinical Research Engineer with industry experience.

Responsibilities include the planning, conduct and interpretation of medical device pre-clinical/clinical research and Human Factors activities. This position plays a key role in the development and execution of pre-clinical, feasibility and first-in human trials intended to support regulatory registration of new indications and new medical devices, as well as physician-initiated, company sponsored, and grant funded clinical trials.
  • BS or MS degree in Engineering (Biomed, Mechanical, Electrical). 
  • 4+ years of experience in Clinical Trials for Class 3 medical devices. 
  • Strong knowledge of clinical study guidelines (FDA, ICH and GCP) for Class III medical devices.
  • Ability to travel as required <20%.

Sr. Electronics Engineer – Irvine, CA
The company has developed a category redefining respiratory device for high flow oxygen delivery.
  • Lead and contribute to projects, overseeing overall design, requirement development, design for manufacturing, test method development, and product verification and validation testing.
  • Conduct research, design, development, and testing.
  • Design and implement analog and digital instrumentation for electronic hardware.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in the medical device industry
  • Bachelor's degree or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Expertise in electrical embedded systems and microprocessor-controlled systems
  • Extensive experience in analog and digital instrumentation circuit design
  • Proficient in system architecture design, schematic capture, and PCB layout tools
