Enabling DevOps and Cloud-Native Transformation in the Enterprise by Combining Process and Technology

Pizza/Refreshments: 6:30 PM
Presentation: 7:00 PM
Speaker: Bryan Friedman
Free admission. Register at www.ieee-bv.org/meet/2018-10-cs

Abstract

As enterprises increasingly rely on software to engage customers, innovation and speed become core to delivering value. So most Fortune 2,000 companies are embarking on a digital transformation movement in an effort to reduce cost and deliver value faster. However, many organizations are finding that the digital shift is more difficult than expected, especially at scale. How can they improve developer productivity and operational efficiency while still struggling to deal with their increasing challenges around security and high availability?

The revolution in software containers has opened up many possibilities for enabling continuous deployment. Containers offer a way to speed application delivery while increasing portability, but there are still things such as dependencies and configuration that must be addressed to ensure the developers and their systems coordinate smoothly with the production environment. With Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF)'s "cf push" experience, the platform manages the containers for you so developers "just push code" and have apps deployed to production in minutes. This model extends git-style development into real-world deployments. The process works on all major public and private cloud infrastructure and supports popular programming languages such as Java, .NET, Node.js, PHP, Python, and more.

Plus, Pivotal Labs to partner with enterprises and show them how to do Agile development the "Silicon Valley" way - pair programming, test-driven development, and continuous integration and delivery. Along with the platform and methodology, Pivotal brings a curated set of open source tooling and frameworks for building and integrating software; among them: the popular Spring Framework including Spring Boot and Spring Cloud for building Java microservices, RabbitMQ for highly-reliable messaging, and a unique and flexible CI/CD system called Concourse.

About the Speaker

Bryan Friedman is a Product Marketing Director for Pivotal. Prior to working for Pivotal, Bryan was a Product Manager and Director at CenturyLink Cloud. In addition to his recent experience in the cloud product management space, he spent over ten years at Amgen in various information technology areas including web application development, document management and collaboration, business intelligence, identity and access management, and financial planning and reporting systems. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo as well as a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and an MBA in Finance from California Lutheran University. He lives in Thousand Oaks with his wife, two daughters, and dog Princeton. Power Integrity Effects on Signal Integrity in FPGA Systems – Measurements and Analysis Using an FPGA Configured Vector Network Analyzer

Pizza/Refreshments: 6:30 PM
Presentation: 7:00 PM
Speaker: Cosmin Iorga
Free admission. Register at www.ieee-bv.org/meet/2018-10-edcas

Abstract

Power integrity issues may create intermittent failures and signal integrity degradation in FPGA systems. This talk starts with fundamental concepts of power integrity and signal integrity and presents a novel method for power integrity analysis in FPGA systems by configuring the FPGA to function as a Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) test instrument for its own power delivery network (PDN). This VNA measures the impedance profile of the PDN as seen by the logic circuits on the FPGA die and extracts an S-parameter model of the FPGA PDN, that includes the PDN elements on the FPGA die, FPGA package, and PCB. The S-parameter model is then used in circuit simulations to evaluate the power supply noise in the FPGA and the signal integrity in the FPGA I/O serial data links.

About the Speaker

Dr. Cosmin Iorga has earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. He has accumulated over 20 years of experience in high speed analog and mixed signal circuit design and troubleshooting at system, board, and integrated circuit levels, with emphasis on signal integrity, power integrity, and noise coupling reduction. Cosmin has 10 patents covering innovative solutions in noise coupling reduction and signal integrity. Cosmin is the author of the book “Noise Coupling in Integrated Circuits: A Practical Approach to Analysis, Modeling, and Suppression”, and he teaches courses in analog circuit design, data converters, and power integrity at UCLA Extension.

Girls Make Tech with Heart 2018
4th Annual STEM Event
10:00 AM to 2:30 PM

Event is free of charge. Capacity limited to 120 girls and 120 parents. Lunch will be provided.
Registration required: www.ieee-bv.org/stem

Girls in middle school (typically age 10 to 14) will become scientists and engineers for a day. The workshops will include experiments with imaging, virtual reality, sensors, bioengineering, or robotics.

Parents can attend a concurrent program with a mix of hands on experiences that can be duplicated at home and discover the future that awaits their daughters in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The parents program will conclude with a visit to the classrooms to see what the kids have learned.

Girls can participate without parents attending. All girls will be under the supervision of mentors.

This event is organized by the IEEE Buenaventura Section, with the gracious hospitality of La Reina High School & Middle School in Thousand Oaks.

Presentation (free): 7:00 PM
Speaker: Alexa Williamson
Free admission to presentation. Register at www.ieee-bv.org/meet/2018-10-emb

Abstract

Wearable sensors have become ubiquitous in the world of fitness tracking and quantified self, but data from these devices is limited to basic analysis. Vivonoetics, with our software platform VivoSense, enables continuous data to be analyzed with accuracy and repeatability. VivoSense is a sensor agnostic software that combines multiple sensor data onto one analysis platform. Sensor data can be synced together, making data collection possibilities for academic and clinical research boundless. This presentation will give an overview of the VivoSense software, how it meets the needs of a universal physiological data analysis program and its built in algorithms that provide quality physiological end points for research.

About the Speaker

Alexa Williamson, B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and Physiology, is a Data Analyst at Vivonoetics. She has over five years of research experience over three physiology-based laboratories within optical engineering, pharmacology and genetic research fields. She is trained in data analysis in respiratory inductance plethysmography and heart rate variability, and performs analysis for clinical trials research. She is passionate about the bridge between diagnostic technology and health care, and how the quality of these systems can improve to generate more predictable physiological metrics.

Buffet Dinner: 6:30 PM
Panel: 7:00 PM – 8:15 PM
Free admission but registration required: www.ieee-bv.org/meet/2018-11-mixer

Abstract

When lives are at stake, deciding the right actions fast is essential. The success of the outcome depends on our ability to detect and discern which information is most significant to prepare for, handle, and recover from a disastrous set of events. This may require to see anomalies or changes of patterns in the midst very noisy data. The panelists will cover different industry and fields of expertise and will discuss progress, challenges, and future directions in the art of minding the madness through data in crisis time. Panelists will be announced later in October.
